Subject: The Reward Climate – Post Economic Crisis

Mark Childs of Total Reward Solutions will be discussing the challenge of distinguishing between changing seasons and long-term climate change, including:

  • Economic crisis – the short-term impact and expected lasting changes for the financial services sector in particular
  • Compensation models – a blip in the long-term trends or will the future be different?
  • Incentives – recalibrating the reward mix and the future significance of deferred compensation
  • Benefits – the declining significance of benefits provision and anticipated developments in the next decade

Mark is a Director of both the boutique reward consultancy, Total Reward Solutions and the search and interim firm, Total Reward Careers. He has previously headed up global compensation and benefits in Fidelity Investments, Seagram, Chubb, Reckitt & Colman plc and Forte plc.

In additional to a wealth of international compensation and benefits experience Mark spent ten years as an HR generalist in both the public and private sectors and has an academic background in industrial relations.

Mark is a Companion and former Vice President Reward of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD). During this time he was an architect of the CIPD's Advanced Certificate in Reward Management and is Tutor for the Pensions, Share Schemes and Benefits module. He is also Consulting Editor of CIPD's Reward Management publication.

A Fellow of the Institute of Business Consultants, Mark is a former member of the CBI's National Employment Policy Committee and Chair of both the CBI's Employee Resourcing and Social Security Panels. He is author of Personnel Today's One Stop Guide to Reward Management and a regular speaker and contributor to reward publications.
